Hydrogen Generator For My Car

hydrogen generator for my car
Would it be possible to have water powered cars?

I know very little about cars but would it be possible to have a car run off of water somehow? Imagine just filling up your car at home using a garden hose. I assume if it was feasible it would have been out years ago.

For it to be possible I think the water molecules would need to somehow generate electricity by being split. Or it would just run off of a classic steam engine which would be boiled by electricity/ heat through a generator powered by the movement of the car.

This is off the top of my head what do you guys think?

Also what do you think will be the next primary fuel source at the pump in 20 years? Hydrogen?

You’re talking about a hydrogen car where the hydrogen fuel comes from using electrolysis to break the atomic bonds in water. This technology is currently impractical for several reasons discussed in the link below, and won’t be a good option for at least a few decades.

A better option which is already starting to come to market is electric cars. Right now we’re mostly seeing gas/electric hybrids, but soon there will be plug-in hybrids and fully electric cars. That’s the transportation of the future.
